Ben Mendelsohn from „Rogue One: A Star Wars Story“ has German roots

Currently, Ben Mendelsohn can be seen as a main actor in cinemas. He plays Orson Krennic in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, Director of the Advanced Weapons Research division of the Imperial Military. This means he plays a villain.

In real life he is very different of course, as Andrea Bentschneider can confirm. She met Ben Mendelsohn back in 2008 in the context of a shooting for the Australian television program “Who Do You Think You Are?”. In this show celebrities search for their ancestors, with some help from professional genealogists.

Back then, Andrea Bentschneider found out, that Ben Mendelsohn had indeed German ancestors. She also researched his Jewish ancestors in Poland, Hungary and Austria. Disproved was however the hope of his family to descend from the famous composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
